Phoenix wrote:Apparently Senna was having serious tyre issues which explain why he failed to qualify and even Piercarlo Ghinzani was faster than him. What not many people know, though, is that Jo Gartner, driving last year's execrable FA1E, with an aspirated Alfa Romeo V12 engine, managed to qualify for the race. Whether Ghinzani was experiencing the same issues that plagued Senna, I don't know.

It looks like the tyre problems were also related to Toleman's relationship with Pirelli, which had deteriorated to breaking point by that time (Toleman dumped Pirelli after that race and switched to Michelin). It seems that Pirelli were complaining that Toleman hadn't paid them for their tyres, so to begin with Toleman only had enough tyres for Cecotto to set a decent time; by the time the tyre dispute was settled and Senna could set a time his engine was misfiring heavily, which was why his times were so bad.

Mr P Maldonado, I am afraid to announce that you seem to be suffering from a case of F1 Deprivation. First custard parties with Bernie Ecclestone and Jerome D'Ambrosio, then an endless stream of memes, and now cooking programmes with Formula One drivers, I am afraid it seems you have come down with quite a case of it.

I advise a dosage of this to try and clear the system, but I can't guarantee it will work.

Nope...it's Toranosuke Takagi mounting the back of Luca Badoer's Minardi at the 1999 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
