2001 F1 Tweets as Real Time @RealTimeF1

Postby Stewzer » 17 Nov 2011, 00:46

I've started a twitter account linking to race results & news etc which is 10yrs old. The beauty of it is that it's all in real time as if it's happening 10yrs ago to the day.

Read news reports as they happen in November 2001 as the Prost team goes into receivership & crumbles... Epic Reject.

It's just started (today!) you can follow on twitter with the username @RealTimeF1. The page is http://twitter.com/RealTimeF1.

Any ideas, thoughts or comments are welcome,
Thanks,

Stuart - @RealTimeF1

You look new on the forum, so welcome to this forum. I very much like the idea and will visit your twitter account often just to remember stuff and perhaps try to relive 2001 (I had just made 18. Great year!), although I will not follow it on twitter because I don't use my account for years and I really don't care much about having one.

Thanks. Long time listener but this is the first time I've been on the forums.

It's going to be mundane stuff at the moment as it's the off season in 10 years ago in 2001. Just team developments, testing, driver signings etc. Will be great fun when the races get going next year in 2002! :)

Bah, the only way Button will win a F1 championship is when the world goes completely astray and he gets more luck than one human being deserves.

I think 2002 will be a good year, Coulthard and Raikkonen looks like a very strong driver line-up and the Williams-BMW partnership is a match made in heaven, I predict a four way battle for the drivers championship between Schumacher, Coulthard, Montoya and Raikkonen that is too close to call, with McLaren taking the constructors ahead of Williams. Ferrari slip to third because I don't think Barrichello is a true top line driver, I'd expect his F1 career to be over soon.

Further back I think Jaguar and BAR will be best of the rest, with both having a real chance of breaking into the winner's circle.

In agreement particularly with your Williams statement. Ralf has the experience and the pace to challenge for the championship, and so long Montoya doesn't push it TOO hard, I'm pretty certain that we'll be seeing a Williams champion again!

Arrows look good as well, considering their using Cosworth engines now. Still a bit uncertain regarding their financial stability though.

And who thinks we won't be seeing Prost next year? Would be a terrible shame to see them go. Love their blue cars.

I'd be surprised if the French government don't try to help Prost. After all, it's a proper French team, and maybe the future of Magny-Cours depends on it.

I'm also wondering how the Renault team will fare next year. Now they've finally turned into a works team, a victory or two wouldn't be out of the question.

I'm most interested to see how Toyota will fare next year. I mean, they've thrown a crapload of money at the project which means the car should be good. Their driver lineup of Salo and McNish might be a bit of the weak side however.

Jacques Villeneuve is fahcking rubbish these days. Why don't BAR take a risk on someone younger like Fernando Alonso? He seemed pretty decent this season considering the box of crap he was driving. Or Justin Wilson, he destoryed everyone in F3000 this year? But no, I bet JV gets retained yet again by his BFF Craig Pollock.

Looking forward to seeing McNish finally getting his F1 chance. I think he'll surprise a lot of people, and forcing Salo to retirement. I want to see some more CART drivers joining as well. Webber is just overrated, Stoddard is signing him to be "nice", and get som favours from Flavio...

Facepalm - I keep misreading the title as being the 00-01 off-season as opposed to 01-02.

Fernando did things in that Minardi nobody else can. I just fear that Renault may not be able to give him a good enough car in the future.

I may be Scottish, but really, DC just isn't going to cut it against Williams next season. Not unless they have by far the best car on the grid. Hopefully Hakkinen makes his comeback in his place for a Finnish superteam :D

So Prost is going to sell the team to Phoenix Finance? I hear they plan on hiring Gaston Mazzacane and Tarso Marques...why not Tomas Enge? Give him a chance.

Well, considering that the BMW engine was the strongest this year, and that it was Michelin's first season, and how competitive Williams was, I think they are going to be the team to beat in 2002. They would have finished 2nd if their reliability had been a bit better.

BTW, Minardi should have a much improved year. This time last year they looked like they would be no more! The deal to sell the team to Telefonica fell through, then Telefonica pulled away from their contract and the team was sold to PSN, but PSN pulled away from that as well! Poor Gabriele Rumi wanted to sell, apparently because he had run out of money (I felt very bad when I heard the news about his death, last May... I had no idea he had been suffering from cancer! ). Finally Paul Stoddart came and saved the team! He's got a lot of money with his air company, and the Malaysian sponsors that come with Yoong will be useful as well, although the impact of 9/11 in Stoddart's business remains to be seen. Minardi will have a better engine in the Asiatechs, which have powered Arrows this year to a few quite competitive performances (remember Verstappen running 2nd in Malaysia and Canada?) BTW, has the second driver already been announced? Last time I checked, Mark Webber looked strong for the seat, as he is Australian like Stoddart and has already worked with him in the past, but f1.com and galeforcef1.com haven't got any updates about it. He's pretty tall for a driver, over 1'80m I believe; I wonder whether he would have problems fitting in the car.

What do you think about Takuma Sato? He's very promising, he's won the British F3 championship and recently won the Macau GP, might he be the first truly successful Japanese F1 driver? (Wel, the second, according to Murray Walker  ). He's inexperienced though, and it looks like Jordan has signed him to appease Honda... he might need time to adapt.

Oh, and I'll miss Murray commentating next year! It won't be the same to get up for the Australian Grand Prix and not hear him screaming "go, go, go!!!" as the lights go off  I hope James Allen does well, but it will never be the same without Murray's enthusiasm! I also hope he has a long and happy retirement, though, he's earned it!

Well with the Honda engines, Jordan should have a much improved year than last. Takuma Sato could be a surprise. And what about this Giancarlo Fisichella? Maybe a win or two for him?

That's what I think. He did finish 3rd in Le Mans and he is only 29.
I think he's got connections to Bill Gates and has his funding to take to Arrows. If that's true, then Arrows will finally grab their first win within a couple years. Gates Arrows Incorporated Network.

They aren't looking that bad, are they? Finishing 10th in the constructors will have hurt them, but Walkinshaw always finds a way to bring more money to the team. In the end it comes down to whether Tom wants to invest more of his own money into the operation.
