New Centrale article: Minardi's 2004 Misano test

Hi everyone,

This must be a new record as far as new content is concerned - two articles and a podcast within a week!

But Pastor Maldonado's Spanish GP prompted me to think about his first taste of F1 machinery, in a particularly weird test at Misano at the end of 2004 - and it was too good a story not to write about it.

Back in November 2004, if you had told Sir Frank Williams that his next Grand Prix winner would be the teenage Venezuelan Formula Renault driver having his first drive in an F1 car as part of Minardi's liquorice-allsorts test at Misano, I'll bet he would have laughed.

Great read. I learned a lot from it and I had no idea that Maldonado had tested for Minardi. On a tangentially related note, perhaps someday all the Centrale articles could be compiled and published as "The Annals of F1 Rejectdom"

Just how many drivers was at the test?! Good way for Minardi to rake some extra cash in. I too had no idea Maldonado tested for them either. Great read.

Nice article! I remember this test quite well because of Will Power and Will Davison, but I had no idea that Maldonado was there!

That is one highlight of minnow teams in F1, they bring together some of the most surprising people. Where would this Forum be without test weeks like that?!

It sheds light on the various pushes and pulls backmarkers have to steady themselves for, from their sponsors (who usually have too much power), not always positive ones.

Aside of this, I miss the GP reports and I think one or two people from this forum would happily put one together if the site admin don't have the time.
