The Lotus F1 team have this evening announced a title sponsor to fill the void created when Group Lotus cancelled their deal with the team a few days ago. Team boss Gerard Lopez declared himself 'delighted' that the hole in the team's finances which he's previously admitted his Genii Capital firm would have had to fill should a backer not be found, was now resolved. Pacific Technology logos will be displayed prominently on the car as part of the deal, as well as the team's official name switched to Pacific Lotus F1 Team, which draws what some may consider unwanted parallels with the former 1995 team of a similar name.

Wow, really? So THIS is the genuine successor to Lotus in single-seater racing then! 1995's Pacific Team Lotus was a direct continuation and this is the same team boss running Lotus branding again....

I guess that it was only going to be a matter of time before Bahar's rather extravagant plans came back to haunt him, and I have to say that I'm surprised this news didn't come earlier given that some of Bahar's recent comments and actions defy belief. I imagine that Tony Fernandes must have the biggest smile in the whole of the F1 paddock right now...
