New Centrale article: Minardi's 2004 Misano test

Postby eytl » 17 May 2012, 06:53

Hi everyone,

This must be a new record as far as new content is concerned - two articles and a podcast within a week!

But Pastor Maldonado's Spanish GP prompted me to think about his first taste of F1 machinery, in a particularly weird test at Misano at the end of 2004 - and it was too good a story not to write about it.

Here's the story: http://www.f1rejects.com/centrale/minarditest/index.html

With F1 Rejects connections too - and not just because HWNSNBM was there ...

Cheers,
Enoch

That's a brilliant article! Lovely, different sort of thing that makes the site so good - the Centrale section is just full of anecdotes like this. Thanks Enoch, this new stuff you're coming out with is just superb! :)
That's right Eddie, that was me with the banner, Spanish GP, 2002. This pile of legal forms won't fill itself in you know...

Fantastic article! Nissany and HWNSNBM driving on the same day, in the same type of car, I'm surprised the world didn't implode due to this clash of the titans!
The 1990s were better. Fact. And you bloody well know it.

Back in November 2004, if you had told Sir Frank Williams that his next Grand Prix winner would be the teenage Venezuelan Formula Renault driver having his first drive in an F1 car as part of Minardi's liquorice-allsorts test at Misano, I'll bet he would have laughed.

Great, but Van Hooydonk wasn't Dutch, he was Belgian.

A shame that there are no tests like that anymore to reminise about in another 8 to 10 years times...

Huzzah, more F1Rejects content! Another great read, it made me miss the days of unlimited testing...

Great read. I learned a lot from it and I had no idea that Maldonado had tested for Minardi. On a tangentially related note, perhaps someday all the Centrale articles could be compiled and published as "The Annals of F1 Rejectdom" :D

Just how many drivers was at the test?! Good way for Minardi to rake some extra cash in. I too had no idea Maldonado tested for them either. Great read.

  • Why the article mentioned HWNSNBM's name?
  • Why I did not see the Schumacher article in the Centrale? :?

Otherwise, nice read. :)

Fantastic reading guys. It is a great anecdote to know about and I had no idea such test with the Reverend had happened!

Nice article! I remember this test quite well because of Will Power and Will Davison, but I had no idea that Maldonado was there!

That is one highlight of minnow teams in F1, they bring together some of the most surprising people. Where would this Forum be without test weeks like that?!

Yes, because it had Juan Pablo Montoya.

Nice article!

It sheds light on the various pushes and pulls backmarkers have to steady themselves for, from their sponsors (who usually have too much power), not always positive ones.

Aside of this, I miss the GP reports and I think one or two people from this forum would happily put one together if the site admin don't have the time.
