Get the bathplug over yourself, with the exception of Canada* Raikkonen has been much better in race conditions, besides no one is ever going to win a championship from crashing out three times in seven races. Image

*China was due to his strategist being a failure.

Though you could debate that JV won his championship thanks to Michael Schumacher being way too clumsy, and Piquet's '81 championship due to the squabbling between Reutemann and Jones.

Not sure if trolling or just stupid.

How can a driver ever be classified as "bossing" if they have crashed out three times, two of which were completely his fault and the other one was at least half his fault. And has only managed to beat his teammate on merit once, who was a fomer champion but has been out of open wheel racing for two whole years.

So stop acting like the F1 version of the redneck Dale Jr fanboys in NASCAR.

Grosjean has been trashing Raikkonen in qualifying pretty much all year. And everyone knows Kimi is probably one of the fastest drivers in history for out and out pace.

Thing is, Grrrrjjjnnnnnnn is a bit wild right now, but he already show he has the one lap pace. He only needs to string a few of those together without crashing in the middle and there you go.

Rrrrmmmmnnnn has already converted me. He's been a match for Raikkonen even when the Iceman has been on top form (See Bahrain and Spain). Before this year, I honestly thought that he would go the way of the Pantano.

Someone who IS heading the way of Pantano however is one Nico Hulkenberg who in two years has gone from 'the next big thing' to 'the next big flop' with nobody to blame but himself

Quite - Buemi managed to beat Alguersuari more often than not in qualifying last year, but Alguersuari finished a long way ahead of Buemi in the WDC (Buemi was ultimately unlucky on a number of occasions though). Hamilton also regularly outqualified Button in 2011, although it did him little good all too often that year, whilst Petrov outqualified Heidfeld more often than not but was being beaten by Heidfeld in the WDC before he was kicked out . Whilst out and out single lap speed is important, it isn't the be all and end all given that the points are awarded on Sunday. Kimi has had a couple of poor races recently, but when he is happy with the car he is clearly quick (he picked up those two podiums on merit).

Grosjean is, when he can string it together, quick and has evident talent, but at the moment he is still a bit too wild and ragged to apply that talent consistently - it's something he's carried over from GP2 where, due to the sprint format of the races and the spec nature of the cars, the drivers tend to be much more aggressive, almost desperate, in the races.

Wizzie wrote:Someone who IS heading the way of Pantano however is one Nico Hulkenberg who in two years has gone from 'the next big thing' to 'the next big flop' with nobody to blame but himself

That is certainly true - whilst Di Resta and Hulkenberg have been fairly close together in qualifying (with Di Resta having a slight edge there), in the races Di Resta has, excluding Australia (where Hulkenberg retired), beaten Hulkenberg in all but one race, and currently has three times as many points. Hulkenberg certainly needs to improve his form in that sense, because at the moment Di Resta is consistently beating him by a substantial margin.

The Lotus team reading far too much into qualifying results, at the worst time. Qualifying is no longer that much of a way of comparing driver talent or speed, as it's really a contest to see who can give themselves the most fresh tyres for the race. As you can see from the current standings, Raikkonen is doing a better job, though Grosjean has been a victim of some miserable luck.

If F1 never left Brands Hatch in 1986, and the circuit became the permanent host of the British Grand Prix from then on, what would the circuit look like today? Would they have cleared the woods all around the track for grandstands? Would they change the layout? Would the circuit be longer? Discuss.

Since the one record Michael Schumacher can never have is the youngest ever driver record, it occurred to me that he would have had to have debuted very early in the 1988 season to have that record. Imagine if he did do that and he was still racing.

He would be the only F1 driver to compete in four different decades.

Who is the youngest? I'm thinking it's between Mike Thackwell, Esteban Tuero and Alguersuari.
For explanation on recent inactivity, please read 2nd post on 2nd page of 'just nipping out' thread. Thank you.
