Nice.

I'll take this oppurtunity to promote my own Luca Badoer love-in - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P69BuCOepxs.

I full on love the guy who made one of the comments -

I enjoyed it, but I don't think Rindt would have become a legend; he told his wife he was going to retire should he won a championship...

I never heard that before.
And then again, we are talking about F1 here, where saying something confirms the opposite.

You should have added a couple of pics from that Michel Vaillant book where Deletraz is the main character :P

Its not footage of a reject driver, its footage of probably a bit of reject music
its the Giorgio Mororder version of "the ivory tower" theme from the film "neverending story"
more commonly known as the BBC Grand Prix grid-line-up music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bsfpb98Nss

This is how it looked back in the day

...and this is some editing whizz, applying it to the new BBC coverage

That second video of the scrolling grid represents my earliest memory of F1 - and apparently even at the age of two I could name most of the cars and drivers!

Thankyou SO much for this ADx_Wales - I loved that tune and for years have not known what it was!

I remember way back someone on Ceefax (!) asking what it was and the reply was given that it was Giorgio Moroder's 'The Chase' which I knew was wrong so finally I know....

I admire the bravery of people posting enture GPs on youtube in neat chunks, however this is the 1989 deciding factor, via the Channel 9 Australia coverage, Plenty of rejects, a "punch and judy" award nominee in duel form, and the sight of 26 cars hurtling towards turn 1, Cant wait to see the surge down to turn 1 in Bahrain, shame its not the turn 1 in Melbourne, but beggars cant be choosers, bernie can.

Now Gilles doesn't count as a reject, but forgetting where the start is? Even if it's a bit oddly put halfway around the circuit.... and then some drivers slow for their grid slots, others avoid them. It's amazing how shambolically the grids of the 70s and 80s look compared to todays immaculate two lines...

I think Giorgio Moroder is the guy who wrote the song Call Me with Blondie, he and Enrico Morricone (hope I got that right) have done loads of legendary soundtracks. To shamelessly self advertise, I've uploaded the 1989 Australian GP (my youtube name is "swca92"), which is a shambles and had Martini starting in 3rd so some reject action there.

I don't remember them personally even though I did see races on ESPN then in 93. Ah ESPN, back before all they cared about was stick and ball sports and NASCAR.

Someone obviously doesn't watch ESPN that much -- because they don't even give a rat's ass about NASCAR either. Their commentary makes Jonathan Legard sound interesting by comparison after they dropped Rusty Wallace from the play by play. The camerawork is inane and they can make the most epic of races turn into boring drivel.

Which is kind of funny, because the commentary for the Indy Racing League is so much better (Scott Goodyear is amazing and so is Eddie Cheever).

I actually do watch ESPN quite a bit, I was more or less not exactly quoting Speed reporter Robin Miller who mostly says that about ESPN caring about stick and ball sports and NASCAR. I know NASCAR's coverage on ESPN is not all that great. What I don't like about IRL's commentary on ESPN is that Scott Goodyear is Master of the Obvious.
