Got this on the PC, really enjoying it so far, particularly online - been pretty much avoiding single player due to the bugs and certain design decisions that annoy me.

So..uh, yeah, definately up for an online/offline F1 rejects championship! 8-)

Edit: And that invalidate next lap thing is to stop people cutting the final corners (such as at Montreal) and getting a faster speed down the main straight and getting unrealistically good laptimes that others can't match without also cheating. It is damn annoying though

I agree with everyone about how ridiculous the penalty system is in this game. The strangest thing that's happened to me was I spun out in Korea (as Kamui Kobyashi no less) and I was DQ'ed from the race for cutting the track. I'm wondering if there is a way to turn the penalties down in this game.

Ah yes, the penalties are absolutely ridiculous. It appears that every single time you as much as touch another car, you get a warning (or one of those time penalties) for "causing a collision". I don't know how they did it, but the stewards in this game are even less competent than they usually are in real life...

The first silly penalty has kicked in on my current career as I hit the european venues with a plop...

Spain

An Utter Nightmare, the <breathe in> STUPID final chicane kicked me into a spin, one of many, in front of kovalainen in practice, and I get hit with a 5-place grid penalty, I came to the conclusion that I should not bother qualifying at all, however, Hispania have raised the achievement bar on my career, they expect a minimum of 15th on the grid, and much worse, a minimun of TWELFH in the RACE!!!

The race was much worse, Stuck in last for the duration, despite some recovering spinners at the start, I have no chance of defending my position, and more ashamedly (or joyous if you consider my reject status), the first time I get lapped in my career on this game

Qual: Last
Race: Last

Monaco

Even worse luck in monaco, I now hate the place, crashing heavily into the INSIDE barrier at Massinet in practice ruins my attempts at getting an improved part. And puzzled as to how to set the car up... How can I have TOO much wing for Monaco?

Race form at the start was good, somehow managed to improve on my 24th place in qualifying by getting into the lead of the slow-six on the first lap without damage (mainly because i switched damage off in the options), however, starting on the softer tyre I've munched them too. After the pit stop I get lumberd with 23rd place, and only improve when my team mate Bruno pits....

Quali: Last
Race: 22nd

However the HRT demands put on me have become ridiculous, my rep is up to ^05, whatever good that does me.

Hmmm, I don't seem to be playing in the spirits of F1 Rejects...
Started an Expert difficulty career with all aids turned off, with Hispania.
I've so far managed 10th - Crash - 14th - 7th in the first 4 races, 7 points. Senna has also got a couple of points - although he got away with NOT PITTING AT ALL in Sepang where I outqualified him by 2 seconds... So after the first 4 flyaways, Hispania have 9 points!

My career has come to a sudden halt however - I've done a Badoer and broken my hand. They'll have to get Stephane Sarrazin to replace me, I guess...

This will be the last update I put in this thread, I will start the FORCDA (Formula One Rejects Community Drivers Association) thread once I have completed the canadian GP...

Post-Monaco:

Had a word with Colin Kolles, first I told him to go home, then I told him that 15th place Is not a position that the Hispania Car can qualify in, nor is 12th place where its going to finish, unless something stupid happens in front of me, he agrees, and lowers the bar back to Qualifying 20th and Finishing 18th, I can breathe again.

What Actually Happened:

The computer throught I was in a better car than I actually was the last time I saved it, having loaded the game again to race Istanbul it went back to normal.

And so to Istanbul:

Practice was interesting.
Practice was VERY interesting...
Started off with drizzle, and standing water on track, managed to get the fastest time in this condition before the racing line appeard and everyone started going faster than me, but not all of them , 10th in Practice altogether, Not a position that I expected, nor would I expect in Qualifying, 17th, which was good enough for me, it was on target, It was where I personally expected my limit to be with the HRT.

The Race:
Up to 16th at the start, have focused on getting around the corners more than trying to be quicker on the straights, the corners are pretty easy to digest in this car, especially the multi-pex of turn 8, which should really get a proper name now, something Turkish......the Midnight Express? anyway, 16th is not the place I would stay in for the duration of the race, Slowly pick off the guys ahead of me, Including a lowly Barichello, Around the Outside of turn 1, I'm enjoying this!
Everyone starts to pit ahead of me, I end up blocking most of the front runners, Including Jenson Button, on his first lap out of the pits, I challenge him for the duration of that lap, and the next, which includes another outside overtake.....turn 8!! this is getting better all the time, until my Primes start to wear, then I become the train driver once again, Kubica trying to get past first of all, eventually looking for a space into turn 7 that isnt there, gives me a love tap, only to be spinning himself, I carry on, with Massa tailing me instead, which is also a close battle, especially on the back straight where the much more Powerful prancing-v8 gets by, but have to pit anyway, back to 16th position, nobody around to bother me......not even the remaining pitters, and by the end of the race...14th, my best finish yet.

Turkey
Qual:17th
Race:14th

See you in the FORCDA soon.

Who else has this for the PC? I'm just playing against randomers at the moment, and it gets a LOT more fun when you play against people who know what they're doing, as opposed to racing against a couple of fast guys, then having 7 others all smashing into things or being 20 seconds off the pace (seriously, how do you get lapped TWICE at Canada within 12 laps and equal car performance? )

And apart from the few annoying bugs (FFFUUU- punctures) and waiting around for ages for a game to fill up, only for several players to quit before they've even taken to the track, I'm still really enjoying this. Best bit so far, coming out of turn 7 at Hockenheim, a Mercedes following close behind me gets a better run out of the corner, and is alongside me on the inside going into turn 8. Rather than try and fight him, as it;s very narrow on the exit, I brake maybe twenty/thirty feet before my regular point, and tuck in behind him, while he has gone very deep on the brakes in expectation of me putting up a fight, and got all sideways on the kerbs on the exit, which unceremoniously dumped him right across the track infront of me and straight into the barriers.

I almost didn't finish the race I was laughing so hard

First 7 Rounds:

Bahrain: Q 19, R 16
Australia: Q 24, R 23
Malaysia: Q 17, R 24
China: Q 24, R 20
Spain: Q 24, R 24
Monaco: Q 24, R 22
Turkey: Q 17, R 14

And so to Canada, and things get silly:

Practice was in the wet, just like Istanbul, for the first half of the session, and again, quick in the rain, and most suprisingly of all, quick in the dry, maybe the straightline speed on the home stretch helps (in a HRT? but how?), 10th again in practice, however I'm not using the Option tyre until raceday.

Qualifying, dry, (and in short session mode its 20 minutes one session only, malaysia is the only time I tried doing the full sessions, hence the blitzing of Q1 and the complete slump in Q2 at sepang), I cannot believe how quick the car is, as if everything has been building up to THIS moment to shut everyone up about how Hispania stand in the world of F1, I qualify seventh, technically, the best of the rest.

Race day, decide for the long first stint on the Primes (aargh im saying primes now), I get what I would term a "good start", manage to fend of Schumacher at the start, but another two Merc powerd drivers get by, Rosberg and Sutil, everyone seems to be on the softer tyre and pitting early, Schumacher still stuck behind me, until everyone starts pitting, I make it up to 3rd before I have to stop, and then Fall back to 10th on exit, ahead of Alguesuari, but now that I'm on the softer tyre I am not causing a traffic jam, more long stint pitters ahead of me, put me back up to 7th, and thats where I land, first points for HRT, first points for me, however for a certain website, I'm still a reject for now, so its not all bad.

Canada: Q 7, R 7

I am planning to start over with James Davies so I might as well add him as well. Since all of the careers are now going in here, I might as well ask - should I continue driving myself, or should I have the computer simulate James instead? I'm only asking this, because I have problems keeping up on certain tracks for no discernable reason, but on others I have no problem blitzing the field, even with the same difficulty.

... And so to Valencia, The Spanish press were out in force due to their "Car" getting into the points (yes the CAR built in Italy), Anyway managed to give them what they wanted without showing how unresearched their PAID work was.

After Canada, Kolles raised the bar once again, he now DEMANDED that I finished Higher than 12th and Qualified higher than 15th, which is where I landed up during practice, However I had to work at getting a quick lap in in the dying seconds of the 20 minute qualifying session, 14th on the grid for the race.

Lights out:

Sensible start for a street race, 14th after lap one, however Hulkenberg and two others ahead of me crashed into eachother and lost bodywork, so having overtaken Barrichello around the outside of turn 2, which he did not like, I was up to 10th.

Everyone on Options started to pit, I would have to soon, but before I did I got up to 9th, however on exit I dropped down to 21st, I had work on my hands.

Adjusting the engine mapping to be more powerful and raising the front wing, I managed to gain overtakes on Trulli, Sutil and Barrichello once more, and with People on Primes pitting to put options on was back to 10th with 5 laps to go, but my team mate, Bruno Senna, was 11th...

...Livid with the notion that his team mate managed 7th in Canada, Senna was on a charge (dont ask me how blame codemasters), but could not cope with me, 10th place was where I remained, and another point for HRT, Virgin now the only team with 0 points.

Europe: Q 14th R 10th

Next: Britain (Silverstone)

Pre-Britain:

In light of Doornbos' Monaco performance Vitantonio Liuzzi has been rested (read: unceremoniously dumped) for the next 3 races and has been replaced by Neel Jani but Liuzzi is expected back in either a Toro Rosso or a Red Bull at Magny Cours in a few months time. Meanwhile McLaren have surprisingly signed on Fernando Alonso to drive for McLaren next season and at this rate it looks like both Kimi and Juan will be out of a drive next season as McLaren are interested in signing either Gary Paffert or Lewis Hamilton to drive the other McLaren. Finally down at Midland the rumour has proved true and Rubens Barrichello will replace Tiago Monteiro for Canada and the United States.

Round 8: Great Britain

Qualifying:

The more things change the more they stay the same. From the streets of Monaco to Silverstone Airfield and Melrose has continued his pole streak by racking up his 8th pole for the season. Fernando Alonso will join him alongside the front row while Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa will be staring them down in 3rd and 4th. A slightly more subdued qualifying performance from Sammy Jones sees him 7th although he is still performing to expectations. Webber, Button and Trulli are simply awful in 17th, 19th and 21st while Tiago Monteiro pulls a rabbit out of a hat by qualifying an excellent 15th ahead of a struggling Doornbos

Grid:
1. D. Melrose (BMW)
2. F. Alonso (Renault)
3. K. Raikkonen (McLaren-Mercedes)
4. F. Massa (Ferrari)
5. M. Schumacher (Ferrari)
6. R. Schumacher (Toyota)
7. S. Jones (Honda)
8. J. Pablo Montoya (McLaren-Mercedes)
9. H. Kovaleinen (Renault)
10. N. Heidfeld (BMW)
11. G. Fisichella (Williams-Cosworth)
12. D. Coulthard (RBR-Ferrari)
13. N. Jani (STR-Cosworth)
14. S. Speed (STR-Cosworth)
15. T. Monteiro (MF1-Toyota)
16. R. Doornbos (RBR-Ferrari)
17. M. Webber (Williams-Cosworth)
18. C. Albers (MF1-Toyota)
19. J. Button (Honda)
20. T. Sato (Super Aguri-Honda)
21. J. Trulli (Toyota)
22. F. Montagny (Super Aguri-Honda)

Race:
There is a reason why the British Grand Prix is considered one of the fan favourites for the season. And that is because of the incliment weather than the British Isles can offer. This was evident here today as the tracks started out greasy in half of the track but bone dry on the run from Copse all the way to Club and Vale. Off the line and Melrose got away well and retained the lead from Alonso, Massa and Raikkonen. Many mistakes were made in the first few laps as Melrose ran wide at Priory on lap 2 just after Alonso had spun it at Abbey while Heikki Kovaleinen and Ralf Schumacher had a collision at Abbey on lap 1.

As the track dried completely Melrose was pulling away from Massa at the rate of over a second a lap and that was the win as far as anyone else was concerned but the action wasn't over in the midfield. Robert Doornbos and Scott Speed had gotten together and as a result Doornbos was relegated to effectively the back of the field but not before Trulli came barreling through and collected Doornbos forcing the pair of them to pit. Webber was also forced back after he spun on his own accord on lap 2. Michael Schumacher meanwhile was trying to find a way around Kimi Raikkonen until he spun and dropped to 7th behind a rejuvinated Giancarlo Fisichella in the other Williams.

The action then died down until Neel Jani who was running 9th amid all the carnage spun at Becketts and spent the best part of half a lap trying to find he way on the track. By this point Ralf Schumacher's miserable afternoon had already come to an end after colliding with Mark Webber who wasn't exaclty having a great time either. The first pitstops came and went and the big winner was Nick Heidfeld who had managed to leapfrog both Sammy Jones and Raikkonen and was up into 4th.

Then the race died down again until lap 36. This is important because this was the point where the rainstorm hit. Melrose had anticipated rain around his second stop and had put in some extra fuel accordingly which mean he could pit and put on wets at the same time. Not that it mattered much as he was almost a lap ahead. However further back several incidents shaped the outcome of the race.

Firstly there was an incident between Melrose, Frank Montagny, Felipe Massa and feelgood story of the day Fisichella. You see, Giancarlo was running 5th and knocking on the door for something even greater while staring down Massa. Meanwhile they were bearing down on Frank Montagny to lap him for the 2nd or 3rd time today while Daniel Melrose was steaming up behind them to lap the trio. It all came to blows at Abbey as Montagny kept it parked on the inside for the first half meaning Melrose had to drive around him. However Montagny had reached Melrose's blind spot and Melrose unwittingly forced Montagny wide who then spun on track and careered into Felipe and then Fisichella drove straight to the scene of the accident putting Massa and Fisichella out while forcing Montagny to take a trip down pitlane. The second and thrid incidents occured at the same time. Firstly Nick Heidfeld who was now up to 2nd was trying to lap Scott Speed for the second time but took the outside line into Abbey in the process and fired off into the gravel trap. Meanwhile about 200m behind that Michael Schumacher was putting a move on Heikki Kovaleinen to score himself a net 2nd demoting Kovaleinen to 3rd. The final incident was that between Juan Pablo Montoya and Tiago Monteiro. Montoya was running 7th after a so-so run in the McLaren when he spun at Becketts and was collected by Monteiro putting Montoya out on the spot while forcing Monteiro to make a stop.

At the end of this crazy race Daniel Melrose won from Michael Schumacher by over a minute with Kovaleinen 3rd, Jones 4th, Heidfeld 5th, Alonso 6th in the other Renault and Raikkonen and Trulli rounded out the points. Jenson Button meanwhile capped off what was a miserable weekend by finishing a lowly 15th after being beaten by everyone but the Super Aguries.

Driver name: Sam Emmett
F1R Forum name: Ide
Software: F1 2010
Hardware: PC
Career status: 1st season, 5th race (Barcelona) – HRT

I've already done the first few races, and since I did them around a week ago, I've forgotten the details so I'll update from Spain onwards.

Bahrain: Q24, R10
Malaysia: Q18, R14
Australia: Q14, R24
China: Q13, R7

Spanish Grand Prix
The whole team had high hopes going into the race. Since it was the Spanish Grand Prix, boss Colin Kolles demanded a 15th place grid slot and a 12th place finish. In light of recent grand prix, this task would be challenging yet a distinct possibility.

Practice went well. Emmett spent Friday running new throttle map settings that Senna had developed at the previous race in China. Learning the track and lengthy stints on the prime tyre were the order of the day. Emmett managed 14th in the first session before the rain came down which brought the program to an abrupt halt. Switched to a fresh engine and thus Emmett had no track time for the rest of the session in the wet conditions. Senna finished 22nd. In the afternoon session both Hispanias struggled for pace in 17th and 23rd. Saturday morning saw blue skies and qualifying runs in FP3. Emmett managed to grab 13th position, again outpacing Senna. However, it was clear that the Hispania lacked downforce, especially in the middle sector where they were 7-8 tenths off of the other cars.

Qualifying: Senna struggled in Q1 but still outpaced both Virgins to line up 22nd. Emmett breezed through the session, leaving the two Lotii, Barrichello's Williams and Buemi's Toro Rosso also in the drop zone. A mega lap in Q2 wasn't quite enough for the Englishman to get through to Q3 for the first time, just missing out on 10th place by a little over a tenth of a second.

The grid:
1. Sebastian VETTEL | Red Bull-Renault
2. Jenson BUTTON | McLaren-Mercedes
3. Mark WEBBER | Red Bull-Renault
4. Lewis HAMILTON | McLaren-Mercedes
5. Fernando ALONSO | Ferrari
6. Felipe MASSA | Ferrari
7. Nico ROSBERG | Mercedes
8. Michael SCHUMACHER | Mercedes
9. Robert KUBICA | Renault
10. Vitantonio LIUZZI | Force India-Mercedes
11. Sam EMMETT | Hispania-Cosworth
12. Vitaly PETROV | Renault
13. Adrian SUTIL | Force India-Mercedes
14. Pedro DE LA ROSA | BMW Sauber-Ferrari
15. Jaime ALGUERSUARI | Toro Rosso-Ferrari
16. Nico HULKENBERG | Williams-Cosworth
17. Kamui KOBAYASHI | BMW Sauber-Ferrari
18. Sebastién BUEMI | Toro Rosso-Ferrari
19. Rubens BARRICHELLO | Williams-Cosworth
20. Jarno TRULLI | Lotus-Cosworth
21. Heikki KOVALAINEN | Lotus-Cosworth
22. Bruno SENNA | Hispania-Cosworth
23. Timo GLOCK | Virgin-Cosworth
24. Lucas DI GRASSI | Virgin-Cosworth

Race day was soaking wet, the first wet race of the season. All the cars would start on the full wet tyres Emmett got a good start and held his own down towards Elf (T1). However, an excursion wide at Turn 3 let the fast-starting Sutil into 11th. Sutil then spun at SEAT (T5) allowing Emmett back through. Into la Caixa (T10) for the first time a ballsy late-braking move took the Hispania straight past Tonio Liuzzi who had nothing to give on the exit of the corner. After one lap Emmett was already in the points. Meanwhile, out in the front of the race, Button had taken Vettel for the lead into the chicane, and would never look back.

Back in the midfield, Liuzzi had dropped back behind Petrov and now Emmett was in a Renault sandwich. However, a repeat of the move on Liuzzi into la Caixa saw Sam move past Kubica into 9th. Again, Kubica had no answer and Emmett immediately gapped the Renault. However, a couple of robust moves on the Renaults by Liuzzi saw the Force India on the tail of the Hispania down the main straight and Liuzzi drove straight past down into Elf. His good work would be undone however after an excursion at Turn 7 put Emmett and Petrov (who had passed his team-mate) back in front. Emmett tried a move on Rosberg into la Caixa but the German fought back on the exit to deny Emmett 8th place. The rain had not eased off by this stage and visibility was still poor, with track conditions getting more and more atrocious each lap. Button was pulling out a lead on an inspired Felipe Massa who had worked his way up from 6th on the grid.

Emmett could not catch the two Mercedes who were pulling out a gap and soon a train had formed behind the HRT. However, a spin by Petrov held the field up and Emmett was left with clear space. Schumacher, though having a reputation of a rainmeister found the conditions too difficult and spun on the exit of Turn 8 which promoted Emmett to 8th. Rosberg was pulling out a second a lap on Emmett and would prove too difficult to catch. He was later promoted to 4th after spins by first Hamilton, then Alonso, then a last lap spin by Webber ahead of him made his race easier. Button was not going to be caught and took a commanding victory. Emmett was safe in 8th although an off into the gravel at the hairpin saw his gap to the car behind, now de la Rosa, halved. de la Rosa put in some quick laps but not quick enough to deny Emmett of his third points haul of the season. Nico Hülkenberg put in fastest lap on his way to the last point.

Result:
1. Jenson BUTTON
2. Felipe MASSA +10.9
3. Sebastian VETTEL +13.3
4. Nico ROSBERG +14.2
5. Lewis HAMILTON +16.1
6. Fernando ALONSO +19.4
7. Mark WEBBER +27.0
8. Sam EMMETT +28.9
9. Pedro DE LA ROSA +30.3
10. Nico HULKENBERG +34.9

The Hispania team were thrilled with Emmett's result - as it put them ahead of Lotus in the Constructor's Championship.

From what I've seen on youtube the AI needs to be completely redone in terms of performance...

Yeah, it really does. On every track they have about 15mph on me down the straights. At both Shanghai and Catalunya, I was midfield around the first and 3rd sectors yet the slowest car of all (around half a second slower than the Virgins) in the middle sector! I do like the blocking but it would be nice to be able to slipstream down the straights instead of being a sitting duck the whole time...

Colin Kolles's Alternate Nascar Championship

Postby Dan B » 04 Oct 2010, 09:17

Mods: If this should be in the FORDCA thread, move it there. Thank you; it's just that since this isn't F12010, I think it should have its own thread.

Driver name: Perry McCarthy
F1R Forum name: Dan B
Software: Nascar Racing 2003 (Modded with COT Wing cars)
Hardware: PC
Career status: Start of Season

After a disastrous 2010 season in Formula 1, the great Colin Kolles thought it'd be wise if he were to start a NASCAR team. Sure enough, with the funds left over from the HRT F1 outfit, he bought 3 used 2009 Cars Of Tomorrow to run in NASCAR Sprint Cup. Alongside him were manager Andrea Sasseti and director Keith Wiggins. Sakon Yamamoto, Giovanni Lavaggi, and Perry McCarthy were chosen as the drivers for the drives, each driving a car from their previous F1 efforts. Asked why Kolles hired Yamamoto and Lavaggi, he said that Yamamoto was a great driver in F1 and Lavaggi's success in sports cars make them excellent choices. McCarthy was also chosen because of his sports car carrier, and the fact that he is a great TV personality, which is a plus in NASCAR. So far, the team has no title sponsor, the only sponsors coming from the previous 3 F1 teams (Ursus for Lavaggi, Banco Cruzerio del Sul for Yamamoto, and...not much for McCarthy), but Kolles thinks the team will attract a main sponsor. The season looks to be attractive. NASCAR reverted back to the wing cars the earlier COTs had, and the season has a few races in Europe (namely Monza and Spa), plus some in Asia and Australia. Given the fact there are quite a few road courses, this will give the team an edge over the established teams, who are used to ovals.

The cars were given a photoshoot at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and were off to Daytona for the first race.

Pre-Canada:

The Red Bull Merry-Go-Round is in full swing now as Tonio Liuzzi is expected to return in France to replace Robert Doorbos in the Red Bull. Doornbos is expected to go back to Toro Rosso after the US Grand Prix but whether he'll replace the fast but inconsistant Neel Jani on the unimpressive Scott Speed remains to be seen. Michael Ammermuller has also told the press that he's expecting a drive in Toro Rosso later in the year and David Coulthard has officially announced that he is considering terminating his contract a year early and retiring at the end of the season. Canada will also be the site of the return of F1 Veteran Rubens Barrichello as he'll be driving for Midland for the next 2 races. Finally word has it that Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher have both been put on notice as Toyota are dangling a 20 million dollar carrot above Juan Pablo Montoya's head and could be replacing either driver for next season.

Round 9: Canada

Qualifying:
One combination more than any other has been dominating this season whilst his rivals have been finding new ways to hand the championship on a plate. That combo is the Melrose/BMW combinations and as the Melrose Express rolled into qualifying he came, he saw and he conquered as he scored his 9th pole in a row. Renault were again the only team to get within a second of Melrose as Alonso and Kovaleinen were 2nd and 3rd in the Renaults. Riakkonen keeps pulling off sterling performances in a McLaren that is clearly not up to scratch by putting it 4th on the grid while Fisichella was doing an equally impressive job in the Williams to plonk it 8th. However the story of the day had to be Neel Jani. After his impressive run at Silverstone before he got lost at Becketts and in only his second ever qualifying session he put the Toro Rosso in places it didn't deserve to be in 11th place and put Red Bull and Scott Speed to shame in the process. Finally on his return Rubens Barrichello struggled with the car and only just beat teammate Albers to 18th place.

Grid:
1. D. Melrose (BMW)
2. F. Alonso (Renault)
3. H. Kovaleinen (Renault)
4. K. Raikkonen (McLaren-Mercedes)
5. M. Schumacher (Ferrari)
6. J. Trulli (Toyota)
7. J. Pablo Montoya (McLaren-Mercedes)
8. G. Fisichella (Williams-Cosworth)
9. J. Button (Honda)
10. S. Jones (Honda)
11. N. Jani (STR-Cosworth)
12. R. Schumacher (Toyota)
13. D. Coulthard (RBR-Ferrari)
14. R. Doornbos (RBR-Ferrari)
15. F. Massa (Ferrari)
16. N. Heidfeld (BMW)
17. M. Webber (Williams-Cosworth)
18. R. Barrichello (MF1-Toyota)
19. C. Albers (MF1-Toyota)
20. S. Speed (STR-Cosworth)
21. T. Sato (Super Aguri-Honda)
22. F. Montagny (Super Aguri-Honda)

Race:
The 2006 Canadian Grand Prix turned into one of the few Canadian Grand Prixs that stuck mostly to the script. Off the line and Alonso got the jump on Melrose and the pair started pulling away from Raikkonen at half a second a lap. Meanwhile Giancarlo Fisichella undid all his hard work in qualifying by running into the back of Montoya on lap 2. On the very next lap Felipe Massa compounded the issues he was having by hitting Nick Heidfeld forcing Massa to take a trip down pitlane. And then on lap 12 a massive bombshell was dropped. Alonso was on a 3 stop stratagy. This put Melrose's pace in a compltely new light as he was carrying twice as much fuel as the Spaniard and was keeping in touch while not threatening Alonso.

From there on it was an uneventful race as Melrose won yet again by almost a lap from Kimi Raikkonen and Alonso whose three stop stratagy not only cost him the race but had lost him second place to Raikkonen as well. Schumacher and Kovaleinen were in a battle of their own for 4th and 5th before Schumacher preveiled in the end with Trulli 6th, Heidfeld 7th and David Coulthard scoring Red Bull's first point of the season in 8th place. Honda had a weekend to forget with Button retiring with Transmission problems while Jones was an anonymous 15th. Finally Rubens Barrichello had a tough time reacclimatising to F1 as he was 19th and 2nd last runner behind the equally disappointing Ralf Schumacher.

Results:
1. D. Melrose (BMW): 1h 27m 35.535
2. K. Raikkonen (McLaren-Mercedes): +1:09.905
3. F. Alonso (Renault): +1:11.104
4. M. Schumacher (Ferrari): +1 LAP
5. H. Kovaleinen (Renault): +1 LAP

As I said, merge it if you need to.

For the cars, Yamamoto and Lavaggi are fulfilling their roles as paydrivers, er journeymen. So Mr. Kolles needs all the money he can get for the team!

Silverstone, and back to earth after the highs of finishing 7th at montreal and 10th at Valencia.

21st in qualifying, and in a wet race, which I though I would be good in, only 16th, still not bad for a HRT, but the target on both sessions was not reached. However HRT have offerd me a 2011 deal :-S, will wait to see who will offer before the end of the season.

Daytona 500 Results:

If the first Daytona 500 was an indication of things to come, it is obvious that HisPaDrea Racing Formula will have a challenge. Perry McCarthy's car had some nasty oversteering issues throughout the weekend, evidenced by the hard time in practice and slow pace race. It is also clear that Superspeedways are not Yamamoto's forte, as he was tremendously off the pace in qualifying and during the race itself. McCarthy's practice session also had a hair-raising moment. He spun the Andrea Moda Ford and got tagged by Tony Stewart and someone else. This sent him into a dizzying spin, leaving the car in a vulnerable location. He managed to get it off onto the apron though once he did he was clouted by Robert Richardson in the Mahindra Ford, collecting Mark Martin and Reed Sorenson. Luckily, there are only 43 entries this year, so a grid spot was a given, and the car was repaired, and started behind teammate Sakon Yamamoto and former Arrows driver Massimiliano Papis. Lavaggi started in 34th. Sasetti called for Richardson to be disqualified for the weekend but nothing of that came to frution.

Image
McCarthy desperately trying to keep the car on the track. He would later be tagged by Dave Blaney(66) and forced out of the race.

The race showed how twitchy Perry McCarthy's car was. He did manage to move up to 30th place before it became incredibly loose and tagged teammate Giovanni Lavaggi's car; this dropped Lavaggi to 39th and McCarthy to dead last. Kolles told him t soldier on; there was nothing wrong with the car despite its nasty handling. However, McCarthy's race ended when he was tagged by Dave Blaney who sent the Ford into the wall before being rammed by the Red Bull cars of (not Sebastian Vettel) Brian Vickers and ex Toro Rosso driver Scott Speed. This in turn collected many other drivers, including Carl Edwards and Australia's Marcos Ambrose, both who went into barrel rolls before landing on their wheels. Benefiting from this was Giovanni Lavaggi, who managed to come home in 20th place, which is HisPaDrea's target finish for the season. Yamamoto came in 29th, 4 laps off the leader.

Auto Club 500 results:
Track: Auto Club (California) Speedway

Practice and Qualifying:
The team arrived at California on somewhat of a high. While their race at Daytona wasn't great, they had 2 drivers finish in the top 30. The track, which isn't banked as much as Daytona, was a welcome relief to Perry McCarthy, whose car was much better handling throughout the weekend. Again though, Practice was way more hair-raising than needed, and again, involving McCarthy, who was tagged from the back. He did manage to get back on track before being ran into the back by Brad Keslowski. However, the car was repaired, and was able to go to qualifying. Lavaggi and Yamamoto had rather standard practice sessions, though Yamamoto is way off pace compared to Lavaggi and even McCarthy. Qualifying was to be expected; Lavaggi qualified 25th, McCarthy 41st, and Yamamoto 43rd, and the order for the race is to, again, finish in the top 30.

Image
Lavaggi gets collected by the mess caused by the Michael Waltrip cars, while Yamamoto decides to follow his idol Ricardo Rosset and plow into a bunch of stricken cars. The two HisPaDrea machines were out, though Perry McCarthy salvaged a 21st place.

Race:
Unfortunately, that is not how things went. In an effort to recreate Spa 1998 in NASCAR, the two Michael Waltrip Racing cars of Martin Truex Jr III and David Reuitmann made contact and collected Scott Speed along with them. This caused Truex's car to go onto its roof, being pushed by Lavaggi, Michael McDowell, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Australia's Marcos Ambrose, and just about half the field. Yamamoto decided it was best to play bowling and clouted the rear end of the collected Casey Mears, ruining both of their races. McCarthy was the only HisPaDrea driver to survive the whole fracas, and the race went into a 6 lap caution. Back under green, McCarthy had a good start but swung across Joey Logano's front, sending the Andrea Moda Ford into a spin and just barely touching the back of the car with the wall. He was able to get back into the race, though dead last. Another caution brought out by Joe Nemecheck and Juan-Pablo Montoya gave McCarthy a chance to go into the pits...though he missed the pitbox and had to circle another lap to pit. That said, with fresh tires, he was able to regain his positions, though the tires did not last long at all, and at 4 laps remaining, the right-front tire went down and he had to pit again, not without Colin Kolles telling him to finish the lap with the flat tire, though NASCAR officials sent McCarthy in anyway. In the end, McCarthy finished 21st, a respectable position for the fledgling team.

Race results:

(Yes, it is saying Yamamoto retired due to a Suspension failure. That's erroneous, unless he broke the suspension when he ran into everyone else)

Round 10: United States

Qualifying:
If qualifying for the United States Grand Prix was anything to go by then Daniel Melrose is well on his way to smashing pretty much all the records that can be achieved in a single season. Melrose turned 21 on the Monday after the Canadian Grand Prix and he continued the celebrations by doing another one of those special laps he can do in Qualifying to put his BMW on pole by over half a second over Schumacher who in turn was almost another second up the road from Massa. This was a lonely third for Massa as he was over half a second quicker than Kovaleinen in 4th who was only about 6 tenths of a second infront of Raikkonen who was 9th. The gap between the McLarens on row 5 though was a staggering 1.2 seconds as 10th down to 22nd was covered by just under a second and 13th to 20th by just under a tenth. Guess who benefitted the most?

First it was Williams as they put in one of their better performances with Webber 11th and Fisichella 12th. The other? Takuma Sato. Sato's Chirstmases must have all come at once as he hauled the Super Aguri to a simply unbelieveable 13th on the grid putting names like Heidfeld, Trulli and Coulthard to shame. Montagny in the other Super Aguri didn't do a shabby job either as he found himself 18th on the grid alongside a disappointing Nick Heidfeld. The Red Bull Stable was all over the place with Coutlhard and Speed 14th and 15th while Doornbos and Jani were struggling in 20th and 21st ahead of Rubens Barrichello.

Grid:
1. D. Melrose (BMW)
2. M. Schumacher (Ferrari)
3. F. Massa (Ferrari)
4. H. Kovaleinen (Renault)
5. S. Jones (Honda)
6. F. Alonso (Renault)
7. R. Schumacher (Toyota)
8. J. Button (Honda)
9. K. Raikkonen (McLaren-Mercedes)
10. J. Pablo Montoya (McLaren-Mercedes)
11. M. Webber (Williams-Cosworth)
12. G. Fisichella (Williams-Cosworth)
13. T. Sato (Super Aguri-Honda)
14. D. Coulthard (RBR-Ferrari)
15. S. Speed (STR-Cosworth)
16. C. Albers (MF1-Toyota)
17. N. Heidfeld (BMW)
18. F. Montagny (Super Aguri-Honda)
19. J. Trulli (Toyota)
20. R. Doornbos (RBR-Ferrari)
21. N. Jani (STR-Cosworth)
22. R. Barrichello (MF1-Toyota)

Race:
Another race, another Melrose cakewalk as he won the 2006 United States Grand Prix by over a lap from Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher. However in the early going Melrose didn't have it his own way as he made his worst start of the season and by the braking zone into the first corner he was down to a temporary 4th which became third as he outbraked Massa into turn 1. The order at the end of lap one was Schumacher from Kovaleinen who had made a sensational start and nearly ended up in lead, Melrose, Massa and Alonso. Kovaleinen then continued to his upward spiral as he put a clinical move on Schumacher at Turn 1. Melrose followed suit later in the lap which forced Schumacher wide and put him behind Massa which made the difference between 2nd and 3rd. Kovaleinen led for a few laps until Melrose blasted past on 5 and didn't look back. In the end Renault scored a double points finish as did Toyota but the feelgood story of the day had to be Neel Jani who in just his third race scored his and Toro Rosso's first World Championship point.

Re: Colin Kolles's Alternate Nascar Championship

Indeed. In fact, Parmalat is liking what they see and are speculating on offering the team a 4th car to field, driven by either Roberto Moreno or Andrea Montermini!

There is also talk within the paddock that the two Penske cars of Brad Keslowski and Kurt Busch are running illegal machinery. The cars will race at Las Vegas, though they will be monitored closely. One crew chief remarked that the two cars had "whooshing noises" coming from the engine. Turbos are banned in NASCAR, so it might come as a surprise if the cars passed scrutineering with the supposed turbos mounted. If they are found, the team might be thrown out of the championship.

Thanks... must have made that oversight while I was swapping the two Toyota drivers around.

Funny how nobody is saying anything about my 49 point lead in the championship with 8 races left and thanks to Doornbos being crap at Indy and Jani being good I'm now in a real dilema as to where to slot Liuzzi back into the fray... Anyone got any suggestions?
